There is more to Listening than Sound
Profound listening experiences cannot be realized without designing for all of our senses.

Our Services
-
We provide a range of collaborative design and commissioning services in room acoustics and noise control across all sectors. What sets us apart is our commitment to innovation, specifically with emerging trends in acoustical modeling, spatial audio sound and experiential design, and references to the sounds of nature to better shape environments for focus, learning, recreation, and play.
-
Collaborations with designers, architects, and clients can happen at all stages, from conception through final commissioning of systems. We provide the tools and open-mindedness to realize impressive sonic environments for all budgets, at any stage, in any part of the world.
-
Over the past decade, the global design industry has relied on our technical expertise to deliver a fresh perspective on acoustics in design. We’ve provided advisory oversight to standards for well-being and inclusion, open office acoustics and on-site testing, and sound ecology data acquisition. Our ultimate mission is to educate and push the needle toward a world that deeply listens.
-
We have always rallied behind the notion that all spaces should be inclusive. Our design efforts continue to underscore the implicit relationship between sound and a person’s ability to feel heard, focused, and safe. Aural diversity, or the reality that no two people hear the same, is an imperative constant in our approach to designing a better-sounding world for all.
Ethan Bourdeau
Owner + Principal Consultant
Member: ASTM, INCE, ISO, WELL Faculty
Ethan Bourdeau is an acoustician, standards writer, educator, researcher, and musician. In early 2018, Ethan created Bourdeau Acoustical Design (or BAD) in an attempt to merge the world of practical acoustical consulting with the research and innovation that initially inspired him to pursue a career in design. Today, his practice has evolved to explore the roles that spatial audio, biophilia, well-being, and inclusive design play in the modern design industry. Previously, he was the Sound Concept Lead at the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) and was the author of the WELL Sound Concept (WELL v2 pilot and WELL v2). He maintains his relationship with IWBI as a Sound Concept Advisor and WELL Faculty. His industry leadership has landed him the role of Executive Director at Quiet Parks International (QPI), Director and Board Member of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE USA), and Assistant Adjunct Professor of Architectural Acoustical Ecology at Columbia University (GSAPP). Ethan is a regular guest lecturer and has spoken to design programs at Yale, UPenn, Virginia Tech, Parsons School of Design, University of Galway, and the American University of Armenia
As a musician, Ethan has explored sound and timbre through a variety of studio- based sound designs, spatial audio installations, and more traditionally as a low brass soloist. He is the principal euphoniumist for the Brooklyn Wind Symphony where he has performed at venues such as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, the Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall, the RaiBoC Hall in Omiya, Japan, and Namhansanseong Fortress just outside of Seoul.
